NEWS 2009
The latest from Sandy and other concerns for our group.
DECEMBER 2009
Please join us in mourning the loss of Sandy's right-hand dog, Mister. He blessed our
lives with 13 wonderful
years, but on Tuesday, December 1st, it was time for him to follow the Good Shepherd to
summer range
forever. Words cannot express how much he will be missed.
"He seemed neither old nor young. The character of his strength lay in his eyes.
They looked as old
as the hills and as young as the wild. I never tired of looking at them."
~ John Muir

come out for
a fun day at their gorgeous ranch and vinyards at the foot of magnificent Job's Peak.
We had a wonderful
time!
OCTOBER 2009
The nomadic sheepherder followed bands of
sheep on the open range to look after them, and he needed a "home on wheels" for protection
from harsh winter weather. Thus was born the sheepwagon. By 1910, Wyoming boasted
more than 5 million sheep, and with one shepherd and a couple of dogs, they could care
for as many as 3,000 sheep in a single band. It is feasible to say that, in the height of
the sheep industry, there could have been as many as 3,000 sheep wagons in Wyoming alone.
Old-timers reported that one could see a sheepwagon on every hilltop on the winter range.
Time and modern convenience has changed many things, including the way of the traditional
sheepherder. But wherever the herder placed the sheepwagon became known as Sheep Camp. Ever
changing, always moving.
